Here at The Mad Music Asylum, we believe that indie music is the cornerstone of a vital music landscape. Let's face it, The Beatles and The Stones were once indie bands. We welcome submissions from independent musicians of all genres and each week, we feature several indie artists on the show at the top of the fourth hour (11 pm eastern time) every Sunday night and the shows are repeated at least twice a week.

KaiL Baxley hails from the small backwater town of Williston-Elko, South Carolina, the birthplace and stomping grounds of the late great soul legend James Brown, with whom Baxley shared an unlikely friendship with as a child. Baxley’s music explores many different styles, blues, folk, gospel and soul among them. While Brown’s influence is most apparent on Baxley’s more hard driving soul grooves, with their syncopated beats and self assured attitude, his vocal delivery owes more to the laid back style of a Bill Withers. He is now based in California. @KaiLBaxley

Lilly Van Sickle's songs are like thoughts pieced together through rhymes and music. The inspiration for a song can come from a tragic story, a point that I am trying to convey, a situation I am frustrated with, a friend who I care about, a memory or just a scenario that I create. But, what really inspires me to write are my friends. The people I am surrounded by and the people that support me are what make me want to write more and play more, and be a better person in general. I am blessed with a community who cares about and enjoys the music that I make. @LillyVans23

Luke Reynolds is a Grammy-nominated songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. "After The Flood" is his forthcoming album. Recorded in Brooklyn, Nashville and Los Angeles, After The Flood is both a massive step forward and a natural progression from Reynolds' previous two albums, Maps and Pictures And Sound, expanding into looser, more psychedelic territory. The album marks a creative highpoint for Reynolds, who in addition to having led his own groups has collaborated with artists such as Willie Nelson, Omar Rodriguez Lopez of The Mars Volta, Guster, and Jenny O. @ItsLukeReynolds

Pat McGee on Pat McGee, "As an artist, I feel a welcomed obligation to connect with my listeners, so they can really get to know me as an artist, allowing them to relate to the material on another level." When you know where someone is coming from, it helps you appreciate how much they mean what they choose to sing about. "When I approach an album from artists that I’ve grown to know personally over the years, I listen to their songs in a completely different light and I want my fans to share in that intimacy when listening to my catalog." @PatMcGee

Banta is an Echo Park-based indie pop sextet whose songs embody so much of the smooth pop folk-rock swing of L.A. Comprised of Sharaya Mikael (vocals/guitar), Kristin Hardin (vocals), Jon Marcu (drums), Scott Clear (lead guitar), Steve Oh Grohne (bass) and Alathea Reece (keys), Banta is a fairly new band but songs such as “Three Feet From Gold” and “Someday” filter their classic rock influences exceptionally well. There’s both charm and a fierceness in their songs that will have you grooving long after listening.
